St. Ambrose University’s new Wellness and Recreation Center, located adjacent to and just west of the current Physical Education Center, has 97,100 s.f. of space.
The building sits on the north side of the St. Ambrose campus near its Lombard Street border and has distinctive half-barrel roof construction reminiscent of a 1950s-era field house. The largely brick exterior is designed to fit in seamlessly with the other campus facilities. The facility design features large, light-filled spaces aided by numerous windows below the roofline and areas with glass walls. These features give the interior an open feel and allow students great views inside the building and out to the campus.
