Monmouth College’s Huff Athletic Center is a comprehensive facility for sports, fitness, and recreation at the heart of the Monmouth, IL campus and is open daily to members of the campus community. The new facility is now the largest building on campus. The 155,000 s.f. complex sits on a 4.5-acre site.
This large addition contains a natatorium with an eight-lane competition pool, a steam room and sauna, and a multipurpose fieldhouse with a 200-meter track. The fieldhouse includes a new track with infield space to accommodate jumping and throwing events, as well as practice areas for basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, and baseball. The original gymnasium has been transformed into a modern fitness complex, complete with the latest cardio/aerobic machines, free weights, and a rock-climbing wall. The Glennie Gymnasium was renovated with modern stadium-style seating, a new air-handling system, and an updated sound system.
The project also includes locker rooms, a new wellness suite that contains the office of the fitness director, a physician’s examining room and a private conference room, and the Byrnes Educational Wing which houses faculty and coaches’ offices, classrooms, conference rooms, and work areas.
As a joint-venture project with Pepper Construction out of Chicago, Russell-Pepper completed this project on time and within budget.
