Welcome Home: A Russell-Sponsored Habitat for humanity home is complete
On June 12, 2021, Senior Project Manager, Lee Marbach, represented Russell in a dedication ceremony for the latest Habitat for Humanity build on 6th Street in Davenport. The home, sponsored by Russell, will soon be among six other Habitat homes in the neighborhood as part of a revitalization project to support the 6th street area the hardworking families who live there.
Marbach, along with other project sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and staff welcomed new homeowner, Demessi Djibom and her two daughters, Ruth and Faith, to their 1,100 sq. ft. 3-bedroom 1-bathroom home during the celebratory dedication. They waited for two years for it to be completed and were thrilled to step foot in the space they can now call ‘home.’
The completion of the project is truly remarkable, as project managers, schedulers, and construction crews were confronted with difficult challenges throughout the construction process. Built during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, volunteer construction crews and installers were much more difficult to come by, as health and safety precautions were the main priority. More so, the recent skyrocketing prices in lumber impacted the financing of this build and continue to present budgetary concerns for the organization’s ongoing projects. Over the course of a year, the prices for lumber went up 101%. And while the non-profit relies on free labor to build and plan each home, the cost for all raw materials is their responsibility to cover.
The new home on 6th Street has been featured in local WQAD stories that give viewers a glimpse of the home, complete with a walk-out basement, and meet Demessi and her family.

Habitat for Humanity never stops fulfilling their mission of building strong and stable communities with affordable housing. And Russell is proud to sponsor and support such an impactful organization that brings communities and families in the Quad Cities together.
Russell will continue to sponsor Habitat for Humanity homes. In fact, the next home groundbreaking has already been scheduled for July 28th, thanks to the efforts of Aaron Kendall. The smiles on the faces of home recipients are 100% worth it.
