Providing space for Bikes for tykes growth
Remember the joy of receiving your first bike? Now 200 Quad Cities kids will experience that same joy, thanks to the efforts of the Quad Cities Bike Club!
For the past seven years, the Quad Cities Bicycle Club has organized Bikes for Tykes, a community outreach program that raises money to purchase bikes for at-risk children in the Quad Cities. Each child will receive a bike, a helmet, air pump and lock, and a Whitey’s gift card.
What started as a donation of a singular bike in 2014 has quickly grown to over 200 bikes this year! As donations started to come in, the organization reached out to Russell for a place to store the ever-growing fleet of bikes. We are proud to lend a hand by providing a 10,000 s.f. first floor building for bike display, assembly and maintenance.
With the help of community and Russell volunteers as well as trucks donated by Penske, the bikes were recently transported to Toys for Tots to be distributed to local children this holiday season.
Special thanks to Penske for donating the trucks and Russell team members, Theresa Schlichting, D’Dree Leibold, Mark Clarehout, Brett Grimes, and the whole Russell Facilities Management team for contributing their time to this project!
