What Women in Construction week Means to Russell

Today kicks off the 2023 Women in Construction Week, a week-long celebration to recognize and promote the role women play in driving the construction industry forward.

As an organization, we are consistently working to foster a more inclusive workplace environment for all team members. The story of Russell has been shaped and molded by the significant contributions that numerous female leaders have provided since our inception in 1983. Today, both in the office and field, women leaders continue to impact every aspect of our daily operations.

As a company built on values, showing appreciation, supporting, and recognizing the incredible women working at Russell is a top priority. Numerous programs and resources are used to support our team members, including:

  • Inclusive Recruiting: As Russell continues to grow, hiring a diverse workforce is important to us. Currently, 21.5% of our team members are women (over 10% higher than the industry average) and over 50% of our executive team is made up of women leaders. Our team works closely with K-12 schools and colleges to bring awareness of the opportunities in the construction industry to kids in our local communities. Our hope is that Russell is an inspiring example of what’s possible for the next generation of women construction professionals.
  • Building Women Network (Employee Resource Group): As we continue to grow, our commitment to developing new ways for all team members to connect and feel as though they can bring their whole selves to work is paramount. This month we are excited to launch the Building Women Network (BWN) – a team member-led resource group for Russell women across all three offices to feel empowered, inspired, connected, and appreciated – through professional development, sponsorship, mentoring, coaching, inclusion/connectivity, resources, and recognition.
