Ribbon Cutting: R. Richard Bittner YMCA
Thursday, December 17th was a day to remember for the Quad Cities community as the R. Richard Bittner YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley officially cut the ribbon on a new 73,000 s.f., 3-story state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Davenport. Located on 4th Street and near East River Drive, this YMCA will be replacing its old location on 2nd Street and is anticipated to serve over 10,000 individuals from all backgrounds and ages in our community. This new location is the YMCA’s fifth flagship location in the heart of our region.
This $24 million structure features two pools, a full-sized gym, a 1/8-mile track, top-of-the-line strength and cardio equipment and group exercise spaces, including an outdoor “River Deck” on the third floor with a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River. The facility is also is equipped with a racquetball court, high-tech spinning studio, and a personal training studio to draw in community members of all ages. It will also be housing several multi-functional areas, including community programs and the Midwest Cardiovascular Research Center lead by Dr. Nicolas Shammas.
The Scott County Family YMCA had 43,000 members just before the pandemic took hold. With this new building, they are anticipating additional service to 5,000 more people in the community, including children, teens and families in the critical areas in the central city. We are excited to again partner with the Scott County Family YMCA on this exciting construction project after an addition onto the Bettendorf Family YMCA back in 2016 and are honored to be a part of transforming Downtown Davenport and helping the youth in our community.
