Urban Chestnut Brewing Company (UCBC) selected the former Renard Paper Company building located at 4465 Manchester Ave. in the Grove Neighborhood as its new home. This three-building complex, comprising 68,000 s.f. of former light-duty warehouse space, was transformed into a fully automated brewery with the capacity to produce 100,000 barrels per year.
Prior to completion of this new 58,000 s.f. facility, UCBC’s maximum production was capped at 15,000 barrels per year. In addition to meeting UCBC’s expansion needs, Russell’s construction efforts included extensive site work, interior and exterior modifications, a mix of new and existing MEPFP systems, providing UCBC with new retail space, office space, commercial kitchen with a full-service bierhall, tasting room, event space, Biergarten, and a fully automated brewery.
None of the original buildings were constructed to adequately support a brewery of this magnitude. Therefore, the building was transformed while keeping as many of the original building elements as possible for character and aesthetics. This project involved complex logistical coordination because all of the brewery equipment was manufactured and shipped from Germany.
