AGC/Willis Construction Safety Excellence Award
Russell Construction Company was recognized as one of the top three safest contractors in the U.S. after being invited to compete in the 2010 National Associated General Contractors of America Convention. The Russell safety team lead by Jim Russell, President and CEO, presented their safety program and procedures to a panel of nation-wide safety experts from organizations including the Army Corp. of Engineers, OSHA, the Council on Certifications for Health, Environmental and Safety Technology, Anheuser Bush and Willis Insurance.
Out of 400 companies that competed at the national level, Russell placed third in the Building Division 100,000-300,000 hours worked. In addition to the outstanding safety culture and process implementation, one of the more notable corporate accomplishments was having recorded more than 1,100,000 hours worked with no lost time injuries.
In order to be eligible as a finalist, contractors were first judged on a local level and winners were then passed on to the national judging committee before being named a finalist.The submission included application forms, a two page description of a corporations Safety & Health Program and a one page description of why a company should receive the award. For 2010, 128 finalists nominations were passed onto the national juding committee, out of that, 48 finalists were selected. The final setp was to give a five minute presentation to a panel of safety experts along with a 10 minute question and answer session after the presentation.
The judging panel selected finalists based not only on having an excellent safety record, but also on the level of commitment and in-depth review by management, employee involvement, training programs and innovative safety measures.
In 2008, Russell received a third place national ranking for the Association of General Contractors Safety Excellence Award.
