Blessing and Dedication Ceremony: St. Ambrose's Wellness & Recreation Center
Oct 04, 2017
St. Ambrose University kicked off Homecoming Weekend festivities on
Friday, September 29
with the blessing and dedication of their new state-of-the-art Wellness and Recreation Center. This is the largest single capital campaign in the school’s history. Many students, alumni, staff, and other community members were present to celebrate, and student-led tours of the building followed.
The impressive 80,000 s.f. facility features a two-story cardio and weightlifting workout center, multi-fitness room, locker rooms, four classrooms, a Kinesiology lab, and administrative offices. The 56,000 s.f. field house addition includes four basketball/volleyball courts, two batting cages, and an indoor track. The indoor track consists of pole vault areas, long jump pits, an indoor throwing circle, and a 200-meter, six-lane competition track. Renovations were made to the existing Lee Lohman facility as well.
The construction of the Wellness and Recreation Center fulfilled a long-term strategic goal for St. Ambrose and will allow for more indoor athletic events and practices to be held on campus. The
Building Our Future
capital campaign was announced to the public in April of 2016 and has since raised nearly $18 million in support of construction costs. More than 55 donors have contributed to the funds for this much-needed facility.
As Sister Joan stated, "This building will greatly enhance the St. Ambrose experience of all of our students, and it will impact generations of Ambrosians as we work to serve the ‘whole student' in body, mind and spirit."
Russell is very proud to have played a role in bringing this incredible facility to life!
